dress drunk, travel tipsy

love being different

a soundtrack to my life (February 24 – March 2, 2014)

Sometimes it seems like life moves like waves on the shore, back and forth back and forth.  Not sure if you’re coming or going, a constant mix of the old and the new, discovering and finding novel adventures while constantly being reminded of past experiences.  It makes it tricky to decipher whether or not you’re really moving forward.

That’s what this week felt like, and I think the music, whether it was meant to be that way or not, reflects the rising and ebbing of the tides of life.

February 24, 2014:  Starship – We Built this City

Best Line/s: “Too many runaways eating up the night!”

As cheesy as it is, the reason why this is the song of the day is because I spent Monday running around San Francisco with two of my friends.  From shopping around Union Square to lunch Fisherman’s Wharf, Crissy Field and Smitten Ice Cream to a cute little place called Brass Tacks (which had the coolest music. Just check out their website), it was a great day, a good reminder of why I am where I am and why I love exploring.

My chosen best line?  Well, this whole leaving home and starting something new kind of feels like being a runaway.

February 25, 2014:  Naked Eyes – Always Something There to Remind Me

Best Line/s: “You’ll always be a part of me cause there is always something there to remind me.”

On this Tuesday it seemed like the universe kept reminding me of the same thing.  Though nothing of great significance happened on this day–or maybe that’s what made all the reminders significant–I couldn’t help but feeling like I was being hounded.  Funny how that is, and how we debate with ourselves on whether or not we’re reading too much into the “signs.”

February 26, 2014:  Ellie Goulding – Burn

Best Line/s: “Cause we got the fire, and we’re burning one hell of a something.”

It’s nice when songs can transform.  A Skype session with someone I really look up to (@pageman) reminded me of why I am doing this and refuelled my sense of purpose and my motivational tank.  And  just like that, this dance song became a battle cry.

February 27, 2014:  4 Non Blondes – What’s Up

Best Line/s: “Twenty-five years and my life is still trying to get up that great big hill of hope.”

How’s this for a classic/throwback?  Perfect for #throwbackthursday right?  But that’s not why I chose it.  I heard it at 5 Guys and it got stuck in my head.  That and it’s perfect for the “quarter life crisis” theme that always goes with not knowing if you’re coming or going.

February 28, 2014:  Jordan Hill – Remember Me This Way

Best Line/s: NA

This was one of those days when I wake up with a song already playing in my head.  Maybe it was because Thursday had an old school theme to it, but all of Friday I couldn’t get the theme of Casper to stop playing.

March 1, 2014:  Fun. – We Are Young

Best Line/s: “I know I gave it to you months ago / I know you’re trying to forget / But between the drinks and subtle things… The moon is on my side / I have no reason to run / The angels never arrived / But I can hear the choir…”

Saturday night in NYC.  Apropos.

My chosen best lines?  They’re just my favourites.

March 2, 2014:  Bette Midler – Wind Beneath My Wings

Best Line/s: “It might have appeared to go unnoticed, but I’ve got it all here in my heart. I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.”

I LOVE Bette Midler.  I always have.  So when she performed her classic for the Oscars 2014 tribute, I knew I had to make it the song of the day.  Above is the official video.

And for the last song of the week, my chosen OPM song of the week is by Manskee and it’s called Midlife Crisis.  Again, fitting to the coming and going of the waves of life.  It’s a really sweet sad song.  Check it out below then check out his SoundCloud page here: https://soundcloud.com/manskee
