love being different
This one is coming in a day late. But given that I just got out of St. Patrick’s Day weekend, and that St. Patrick’s Day was yesterday, I think it’s understandable.

Rod Stewart – They Can’t Take That Away From Me
Best Line/s: “The way you hold your knife, the way we danced ’til three, the way you changed my life…”
There are many versions of this song, but this is the one that always finds its way to my humming repertoire. It was the perfect companion to my Monday morning. My chosen best line? It’s because I love how in relationships, both romantic and platonic, it’s always the little things you remember, and how all those little things add up to something big.
Eraserheads – Lightyears
Best Line/s: “Outside the room / Inside my mind / I, look forward to tomorrow / But can I leave yesterday behind / How it feels so strange / To have grown and change / Now it’s not the same / Cause time slips and slides/ Into another place.”
I’m not sure that I’ve chosen so many best lines for a song before. If it wouldn’t take up too much space, I would’ve put down all the lyrics because it’s just a well written song. This is my OPM song of the week while also being the soundtrack to my Monday afternoon.
March 11, 2014: Frank Sinatra & Charles Aznavour – You Make Me Feel So Young
Best Line/s: “You make me feel like spring has sprung.”
Frank Sinatra is probably my favourite singer of all time. He hasn’t sung anything I haven’t loved. What I like about this version is that Charles Aznavour adds a certain romantic twist to this fun song. It was the soundtrack to my Tuesday because that was the first glimpse of spring we’ve had this dreary winter, and everyone was basking in the warmth of the sun. As I took a stroll through Washington Square Park, I thought of this song and knew it was Tuesday’s song.
March 12, 2014: King of Queens Theme Song
Best Line/s: “I’m sitting here in traffic on the Queensboro bridge tonight.”
Maybe it’s all the reruns on TV. Maybe it’s because I’ve been looking for a song that mentions New York, but not exactly. For whatever reason, this song was stuck in my head ALL day on Wednesday.
March 13, 2014: Sharon Corr – Take a Minute
Sharon Corr was in New York and playing at City Winery. This was the song I liked best.
March 14, 2014: Eric Clapton – Change the World (Feat. Babyface)
Best Line/s: “If I could reach the stars, I’d pull one down for you.”
This song always gets me up and dancing, and it always puts a smile on my face. I love it when I get songs like this stuck in my head. They just make everything better. It was the perfect way to end the week, and a great start to St.Patrick’s Day weekend.
I chose this version because of the follow-up chorus after Eric’s awesome extra guitar solo. The best lines? Well, what an opener!!
March 15, 2014: Stabilo – Kidding Ourselves
Best Line/s: “So tonight, let’s be as bold as we want to run.”
On this recuperation Saturday, a Saturday full of chores, I needed something slow and calming. Of all the songs that played on one of my more chill playlists, this one stood out the most.
March 16, 2014: Tony Bennet – On the Sunny Side of the Street
Best Line/s: “If I never had a cent, I’d be rich as Harry Belafonte with Barry Goldwater at my feet.”
Tuesday was our one warm day all week. And in the bitter cold of the streets, walking on the sunny side really makes a difference. That and I love this song. It’s a great reminder that we should appreciate life’s little and simple joys.
