dress drunk, travel tipsy

love being different

a soundtrack to my life (May 5 – 11, 2014)

Last week was the first time in a long time that I didn’t have time to blog, tweet, post photos on Instagram (I usually always post my Graphic Message of the Day), or post on Facebook.  I was just that busy.  Things are settling down more this week.  And I’m happy to have time to post a soundtrack.

May 5, 2014:  Simon & Garfunkle – Sound of Silence

Best Line/s: “People talking without speaking / People hearing without listening / People writing songs that voices never share”

This is the perfect subway song.  Even with all the sounds, people talking, the automated announcements, etc., we’re really all riding in silence.

May 6, 2014:  The Beatles – Golden Slumbers

Best Line/s:  “Smiles awake you when you rise / Sleep pretty darling do not cry / And I will sing a lullabye”

I started sleeping four hour nights–again, that busy–on Saturday.  By Tuesday I was dying to sleep.  But since I had to keep chugging, I made this my chosen song instead.  I figured, if I couldn’t sleep, I could sing about it.

May 7, 2014:  Peanuts Theme

My morning meeting led to a stroll through the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.  The relaxing atmosphere and cotton candy coloured trees just reminded me of the Peanuts Theme.  That and I’m pretty sure I heard it along the way.

May 8, 2014:  Cole Porter – Night and Day

Best Line/s: NA

It’s impossible to pick a best line for this one.  Cole Porter writes perfectly, and this was the perfect follow-up song to the Peanuts theme.

May 9, 2014:  The Rembrandts – I’ll Be There For You (Friends Theme)

Best Line/s: NA

Again, I can’t really pick a best line for this one.  It’s just such a classic.  Apart from having reruns on TV, Friday night felt like an episode of Friends at my apartment.  A whole bunch of people over, crazy antics–including their trying to hide a stain on the couch from me–and lots of silly conversation.

May 10, 2014:  Sky Ferreira – Everything is Embarrassing

Best Line/s: “You’re trying to hold the heart that can’t be stored.”

This is a really fun song, and it went perfectly with my fun Saturday afternoon at Smorgasburg.  Just the song I needed for some lounging on grass, walking through Williamsburg, and pigging out on ice cream sandwiches.

May 11, 2014:  Spice Girls – Mama

In honour of Mother’s Day. ❤

Here’s to hoping I really do have more time this week!
